How Important Is Nutrition? Eat To Reach Your Goals!

Wondering How Important Is Nutrition?

Being a personal trainer in Austin Texas is a great job. Austin is a very active and fitness oriented City. We have many miles of hike and bike trails, many fitness centers, many lakes, and many businesses that revolve around health and fitness incorporating our beautiful climate. Austin is a city where a great many of its residents are very conscious of their health and fitness. Nutrition, naturally, is a huge part of that equation, but to what degree? Yesterday, in fact, a lady who works out at my gym asked me just how important is nutrition?

Lately, it is been reiterated on social media, as well as personal training websites that nutrition will be 80% of your success or failure, in your fitness endeavors. That lady at my gym today who approached me with the question of how important is nutrition, asked is it really true that 80% of your success is truly determined by your nutrition? The answer is of course not. Maybe it’s 81%. Maybe it’s 69.5%. The point is, everything in fitness and health, is individual. This is something I have reiterated countless times in my gym, with my clients, and on this website.

It would be very hard to come up with an accurate quantitative figure for the percentage of which nutrition is the deciding factor in your health and fitness goals. For example, if you were an overweight paraplegic looking to lose weight, nutrition would be responsible for 100% of your success or failure. Conversely, if you are an active marathon runner, the percentage would be substantially lower. There is still no question, however, that nutrition plays an enormous role in any scenario, be it weight loss, sport specific training, gaining muscle, etc.

How important is nutrition? Very important. While I will not commit to a sweeping statement quantification in terms of a percentage that fits everybody, as that is ridiculous, it goes without saying that if you want to perform at your best level, in order to lose weight, gain weight, become faster, stronger, or just feel better and be healthier, proper nutrition is vital. This means that you have to eat for your goals. If you are looking to lose weight, you will have to do more than simply eat well, you will have to incorporate cardiovascular exercise, as well as proper hydration. As far as nutrition goes, you will have to have the proper amount of carbohydrates, protein, and good fats, and all from the best sources. If you are looking to improve your deadlift, for example, you will need to make sure you have enough fuel in your system before you workout, which means proper amounts of complex carbohydrates, as well as an adequate for your goals, and your body, amount of protein, in order to build muscle tissue, and to facilitate your quest to become stronger.

Still asking yourself how important is nutrition? It might be 79%, or it might be 81%. We will never have a sweeping statement that fits every body and every health scenario. We do know, however, that nutrition is what fuels our body, aids us in recovery, and is directly responsible for the amount of mass we carry, for a better, or for worse. If you want to succeed in your health and fitness goals, eat like you mean it.
